The Steam Engine is lowest tier of the two engines in Thermal Expansion. It requires both solid fuels (to burn) and water (for steam) and produces a maximum of 40 RF/t.

Unlike Buildcraft engines, Steam and Magmatic Engines don't explode, but they do overheat. A whack (right-click) with the Crescent Hammer will fix this.

An easy way to supply this engine with an unlimited supply of water is with an Aqueous Accumulator. Simply make a 1x3 hole, fill it with water, and place the aqueous accumulator in the water on the middle block. This will allow the aqueous accumulator to constantly receive water. Then place the steam engine right on top of the accumulator, and it will also receive a constant supply of water.

Note: be sure the top of the accumulator is set to output (orange).

Another easy method is to fill a one block hole behind the engine with water and connect a Water Pump Pipe to the back over the water source block.
